After two years of decline, overseas shipments of raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and cranberries increased by 172% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, faced a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 439% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a perceptible contraction. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Germany (X tons) was the main destination for raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry exports from Bulgaria, accounting for a 40% share of total exports. Moreover, raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Hungary (X tons), twofold. Romania (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Germany totaled -5.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hungary (-18.3% per year) and Romania (+63.9% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and cranberries exports from Bulgaria, comprising 43% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Romania ($X), with an 8.6% share of total exports. It was followed by Hungary, with a 3.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Germany amounted to +2.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Romania (+78.0% per year) and Hungary (-22.8% per year).

Overall, imports continue to indicate significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 73% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 74%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

The Netherlands (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Spain (X tons) were the main suppliers of raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry imports to Bulgaria, with a combined 83% share of total imports.
