The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, sack kraft paper exports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +153.6% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 73%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Turkey (X tons), Serbia (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main destinations of sack kraft paper exports from Bulgaria, together accounting for 41% of total exports. South Africa, Hungary, Poland, Oman, Cote d'Ivoire, South Korea, Thailand, Jordan, Egypt and Greece lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 47%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Poland (with a CAGR of +125.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Italy, Hungary, Poland, Cote d'Ivoire, Oman, South Korea, Thailand, Jordan, Egypt and Greece lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 46%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Poland, with a CAGR of +142.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average sack kraft paper export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 36% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.3%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were South Africa ($X per ton) and Thailand ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Hungary ($X per ton) and Italy ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Cote d'Ivoire (+34.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of sack kraft paper, when their volume decreased by -50.8% to X tons. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 46%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, sack kraft paper imports dropped notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a tangible expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 55%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Italy (X tons) constituted the largest sack kraft paper supplier to Bulgaria, accounting for a 47% share of total imports. Moreover, sack kraft paper imports from Italy exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Czech Republic (X tons), threefold. Serbia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Italy totaled +16.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Czech Republic (+0.3% per year) and Serbia (+9.4% per year).

In value terms, Italy ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sack kraft paper to Bulgaria, comprising 48% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Poland, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Italy amounted to +19.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Czech Republic (+3.3% per year) and Poland (+27.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average sack kraft paper import price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 24% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X per ton), while the price for Serbia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ukraine (+9.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
