In general, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +83.6% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 37%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Over the period under review, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +104.8% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 18%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Turkey (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Romania (X tons) were the main suppliers of plastic support imports to Bulgaria, together accounting for 55% of total imports. Italy, Poland, Serbia, Greece, France, Hungary, China and Austria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 37%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Serbia (with a CAGR of +21.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the price for France ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
