Imports into Bulgaria
Walnut imports into Bulgaria dropped markedly to X tons in 2021, with a decrease of -33.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 232%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, walnut imports plummeted to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 383% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, the United States (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of walnut to Bulgaria, with a 61% share of total imports. Moreover, walnut imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Ukraine (X tons), twofold. Chile (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from the United States stood at +18.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ukraine (-6.3% per year) and Chile (+135.9% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X) constituted the largest supplier of walnut to Bulgaria, comprising 75% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ukraine ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Chile, with an 8.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from the United States stood at +12.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ukraine (-10.5% per year) and Chile (+79.5% per year).

The average walnut import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -13.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average import price increased by 46% against the previous year.
