After two years of growth, the Cameroonian market for aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers decreased by -26.5% to $X in 2022. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a significant increase. Consumption of peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced markedly in the following year.

Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate perceptible growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 5,210% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, exports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 3,389%. The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

South Korea (X units) was the main destination for exports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers from Cameroon, with a 68% share of total exports. Moreover, exports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers to South Korea exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Switzerland (X units), twofold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to South Korea amounted to -1.0%.

In value terms, the largest markets for aluminium cask, drum, can, box and similar container exported from Cameroon were Switzerland ($X) and South Korea ($X).

Switzerland, with a CAGR of 0.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average export price for aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -3.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 119% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to South Korea amounted to $X per unit.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (-14.9%).

In 2022, supplies from abroad of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers decreased by -31.7% to X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, posted a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 1,724%. Over the period under review, imports of reached the peak figure at X units in 2021, and then declined sharply in the following year.

In value terms, imports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers fell sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 979% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

Imports by Country

Romania (X units), the United Arab Emirates (X units) and Morocco (X units) were the main suppliers of imports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers to Cameroon, together comprising 45% of total imports. China, the UK, Hong Kong SAR, Italy and France lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 14%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the UK (with a CAGR of +188.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 52%. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per unit), while the price for Hong Kong SAR (less than $X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+10.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
