Trailer And Semi-Trailer Market Size in Cameroon

After two years of decline, the Cameroonian trailer and semi-trailer market increased by 27% to $X in 2022. In general, consumption enjoyed a tangible expansion. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from Cameroon

After two years of growth, overseas shipments of cargo trailers and semi-trailers decreased by -1.8% to X units in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 142%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, trailer and semi-trailer exports stood at $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a sharp contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 7.8%. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Congo (X units) was the main destination for trailer and semi-trailer exports from Cameroon, accounting for a 45% share of total exports. Moreover, trailer and semi-trailer exports to Congo exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Central African Republic (X units), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Chad (X units), with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Congo totaled -6.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Central African Republic (-8.2% per year) and Chad (-14.2% per year).

In value terms, Congo ($X), Chad ($X) and Central African Republic ($X) constituted the largest markets for trailer and semi-trailer exported from Cameroon worldwide, with a combined 84% share of total exports. Gabon and Equatorial Guinea lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 15%.

Among the main countries of destination, Equatorial Guinea, with a CAGR of -14.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.

Export Prices by Country

The average trailer and semi-trailer export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, growing by 6.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 88% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chad ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Equatorial Guinea ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Equatorial Guinea (-5.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Trailer And Semi-Trailer Imports

Imports into Cameroon

In 2022, overseas purchases of cargo trailers and semi-trailers increased by 32% to X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports saw a tangible expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 572% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, trailer and semi-trailer imports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 417%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Italy (X units), Belgium (X units) and China (X units) were the main suppliers of trailer and semi-trailer imports to Cameroon, together comprising 48% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Italy (with a CAGR of +28.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest trailer and semi-trailer suppliers to Cameroon were China ($X), Belgium ($X) and Turkey ($X), together accounting for 46% of total imports. Italy, the Netherlands, the United States, Germany, Japan, Congo, France, the UK, South Africa and Switzerland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 32%.

Switzerland, with a CAGR of +21.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average trailer and semi-trailer import price amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a perceptible contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 58%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per unit), while the price for the UK ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+10.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
