Crude Oil Market Size in Cameroon
The Cameroonian crude oil market reduced to $X in 2022, shrinking by -10.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption saw a deep setback. Crude oil consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.
Crude Oil Production in Cameroon
In value terms, crude oil production shrank slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, showed a pronounced decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the production volume increased by 26%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Cameroon
Crude oil exports from Cameroon rose to X tons in 2022, surging by 3% compared with 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -2.5% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 44%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, crude oil exports fell to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
India (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main destinations of crude oil exports from Cameroon, with a combined 50% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for India (with a CAGR of +22.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for crude oil exported from Cameroon were India ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and France ($X), together accounting for 57% of total exports.
Among the main countries of destination, India, with a CAGR of +14.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average crude oil export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -8.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Norway ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (-3.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Crude Oil Imports
Imports into Cameroon
In 2022, approx. X tons of crude petroleum oil were imported into Cameroon; with a decrease of 99.9% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, imports faced a dramatic shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 95% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, crude oil imports contracted rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a precipitous contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 43% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Nigeria (X tons) was the main crude oil supplier to Cameroon, accounting for a 97% share of total imports. It was followed by Equatorial Guinea (X kg), with a 2.8% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Nigeria totaled -72.7%.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constituted the largest supplier of crude petroleum oil to Cameroon, comprising 96% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Equatorial Guinea ($X), with a 3.4% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Nigeria stood at -73.1%.
Import Prices by Country
The average crude oil import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 5.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a mild setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by 16% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Equatorial Guinea ($X per ton), while the price for Nigeria amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Equatorial Guinea (-1.1%).
