Crane Market Size in Cameroon

In 2022, the Cameroonian crane market decreased by -26.8% to $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a temperate increase. Crane consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

In 2022, overseas shipments of derricks, cranes, mobile lifting frames, straddle carriers and work trucks fitted with a crane were finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports enjoyed a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 320% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, crane exports soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports recorded a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 172%. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Nigeria (X units) was the main destination for crane exports from Cameroon, with a 49% share of total exports. Moreover, crane exports to Nigeria exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Congo (X units), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Belgium (X units), with a 9.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Nigeria totaled +69.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Congo (+23.9% per year) and Belgium (+2.9% per year).

In value terms, Nigeria ($X) remains the key foreign market for derricks, cranes, mobile lifting frames, straddle carriers and work trucks fitted with a crane exports from Cameroon, comprising 88% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Cote d'Ivoire ($X), with a 4.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Belgium, with a 3.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Nigeria stood at +83.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Cote d'Ivoire (+74.3% per year) and Belgium (-8.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average crane export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, with a decrease of -11.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a perceptible setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 98% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Congo ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Cote d'Ivoire (+7.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Crane Imports

Imports into Cameroon

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of derricks, cranes, mobile lifting frames, straddle carriers and work trucks fitted with a crane, when their volume decreased by -22.5% to X units. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a measured increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 176% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2021, and then fell sharply in the following year.

In value terms, crane imports shrank notably to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 108% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of crane to Cameroon, accounting for a 30% share of total imports. Moreover, crane imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (X units), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by France (X units), with a 9.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China amounted to +15.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (+21.5% per year) and France (+10.3% per year).

In value terms, the largest crane suppliers to Cameroon were China ($X), the United States ($X) and Germany ($X), together comprising 55% of total imports. Portugal, Cote d'Ivoire, Sweden, France, Morocco, Spain, Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates, Denmark and Congo lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 32%.

In terms of the main suppliers, the United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +95.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average crane import price amounted to $X per unit, surging by 1.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, crane import price decreased by -13.3% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 87% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per unit), while the price for Congo ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
