After four years of growth, the Cameroonian market for footwear with uppers of textile materials decreased by -2.2% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded prominent growth. Consumption of peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, overseas shipments of footwear with uppers of textile materials decreased by -35.5% to X pairs for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 450% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X pairs. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports of remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, exports of footwear with uppers of textile materials declined to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 302% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports of failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Denmark (X pairs), the United States (X pairs) and the UK (X pairs) were the main destinations of exports of footwear with uppers of textile materials from Cameroon, with a combined 82% share of total exports. Central African Republic, Singapore, Japan and Congo lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 15%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Congo (with a CAGR of +68.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Denmark ($X) remains the key foreign market for footwear with uppers of textile materials exports from Cameroon, comprising 49% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Central African Republic, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Denmark stood at +41.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (+26.8% per year) and Central African Republic (+45.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average export price for footwear with uppers of textile materials stood at $X per pair in 2022, increasing by 42% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 71%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per pair), while the average price for exports to Congo ($X per pair) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+13.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Footwear with Uppers of Textile Materials

Imports into Cameroon

After four years of growth, purchases abroad of footwear with uppers of textile materials decreased by -4.5% to X pairs in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 597% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs at X pairs in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, imports of footwear with uppers of textile materials shrank to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 1,111% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

China (X pairs), India (X pairs) and Turkey (X pairs) were the main suppliers of imports of footwear with uppers of textile materials to Cameroon, together accounting for 87% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by India (with a CAGR of +73.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of footwear with uppers of textile materials to Cameroon, comprising 75% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkey ($X), with a 7% share of total imports. It was followed by India, with a 6.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled +12.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+35.5% per year) and India (+42.4% per year).

In 2022, the average import price for footwear with uppers of textile materials amounted to $X per pair, surging by 3.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a noticeable reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 95%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per pair in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per pair), while the price for the United States ($X per pair) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+19.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
