Fruit Market Size in Cameroon

In 2022, after four years of growth, there was decline in the Cameroonian fruit market, when its value decreased by X% to $X. Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, fruit exports declined slightly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by X%. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

The UK (X tons) was the main destination for fruit exports from Cameroon, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, fruit exports to the UK exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, France (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Spain (X tons), with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to the UK stood at X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (X% per year) and Spain (X% per year).

In value terms, the UK ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for fruits exports from Cameroon, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with an X% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with an X% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the UK was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (X% per year) and Germany (X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average fruit export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a notable expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Fruit Imports

Imports into Cameroon

In 2022, supplies from abroad of fruits decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, recorded prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, fruit imports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by X% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of X%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then declined in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, South Africa (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of fruit to Cameroon, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, fruit imports from South Africa exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Nigeria (X tons), more than tenfold. Morocco (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from South Africa amounted to X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Nigeria (X% per year) and Morocco (X% per year).

In value terms, South Africa ($X) constituted the largest supplier of fruits to Cameroon, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Nigeria ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by France, with a X% share.

In 2022, the average fruit import price amounted to $X per ton, falling by X% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a mild decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (X%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
