Halogenated Hydrocarbon Derivative Market Size in Cameroon

The Cameroonian halogenated hydrocarbon derivative market reduced to $X in 2022, dropping by -9.5% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Overall, consumption, however, recorded a prominent increase. Halogenated hydrocarbon derivative consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

Exports from Cameroon

In 2022, overseas shipments of halogenated derivatives of hydrocarbons were finally on the rise to reach X kg for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, showed a dramatic curtailment. The exports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, halogenated hydrocarbon derivative exports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a precipitous shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 92%. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Congo (X kg) was the main destination for halogenated hydrocarbon derivative exports from Cameroon, with a 89% share of total exports. Moreover, halogenated hydrocarbon derivative exports to Congo exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Gabon (X kg), tenfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Congo amounted to -39.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Gabon (-32.4% per year) and Equatorial Guinea (-17.7% per year).

In value terms, Congo ($X) remains the key foreign market for halogenated derivatives of hydrocarbons exports from Cameroon, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Gabon ($X), with an 11% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Congo stood at -33.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Gabon (-28.7% per year) and Equatorial Guinea (-35.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average halogenated hydrocarbon derivative export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 3.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price enjoyed a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 65% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Gabon ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Equatorial Guinea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Congo (+9.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Cameroon

In 2022, overseas purchases of halogenated derivatives of hydrocarbons decreased by -1.8% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 105%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then dropped modestly in the following year.

In value terms, halogenated hydrocarbon derivative imports reduced to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a notable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 112% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of halogenated hydrocarbon derivative to Cameroon, accounting for a 49% share of total imports. Moreover, halogenated hydrocarbon derivative imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the Czech Republic (X tons), with a 7.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled +23.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+15.1% per year) and the Czech Republic (+16.8% per year).

In value terms, the largest halogenated hydrocarbon derivative suppliers to Cameroon were China ($X), India ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), together accounting for 61% of total imports.

The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +31.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average halogenated hydrocarbon derivative import price amounted to $X per ton, waning by -10.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a deep reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 31%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+3.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
