Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

France (X units) was the main destination for starter battery exports from Cameroon, with a 96% share of total exports. It was followed by Central African Republic (X units), with a 1.2% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to France totaled +23.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Central African Republic (-33.1% per year) and Congo (-29.5% per year).

In value terms, France ($X) remains the key foreign market for lead-acid accumulators for starting piston engines exports from Cameroon, comprising 97% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Central African Republic ($X), with a 1.3% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to France stood at +22.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Central African Republic (-34.9% per year) and Congo (-32.8% per year).

In general, imports, however, showed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 454%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, starter battery imports dropped to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 223%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of starter battery to Cameroon, accounting for a 79% share of total imports. Moreover, starter battery imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (X units), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Turkey (X units), with a 4.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +34.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+15.6% per year) and Turkey (+10.2% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of lead-acid accumulators for starting piston engines to Cameroon, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 5.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China stood at +25.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+20.8% per year) and Turkey (+6.5% per year).

The average starter battery import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, shrinking by -5.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 16%. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the price for China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+12.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
