Lead Market Size in Cameroon

In 2022, the Cameroonian lead market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, consumption, however, saw a mild decline. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Lead Production in Cameroon

In value terms, lead production dropped slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the production volume increased by 57%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2017 to 2022, production growth remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Cameroon

Lead exports from Cameroon reduced sharply to X tons in 2022, which is down by -19.9% against the previous year's figure. Overall, exports, however, showed a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 67%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then reduced notably in the following year.

In value terms, lead exports declined markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 108% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then plummeted in the following year.

Exports by Country

Greece (X tons), Spain (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) were the main destinations of lead exports from Cameroon, together accounting for 37% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Greece (with a CAGR of +91.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Greece ($X), Spain ($X) and South Korea ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for lead exported from Cameroon worldwide, together comprising 39% of total exports.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Greece, with a CAGR of +69.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average lead export price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -6.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average export price increased by 24%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Greece ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+4.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Lead Imports

Imports into Cameroon

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of lead, when their volume decreased by -22.7% to X tons. Overall, imports saw a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 159%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, lead imports contracted remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 255%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then reduced markedly in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, South Korea (X kg) constituted the largest lead supplier to Cameroon, with a 70% share of total imports. Moreover, lead imports from South Korea exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (X kg), fourfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from South Korea stood at +16.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (-5.6% per year) and France (-3.6% per year).

In value terms, the largest lead suppliers to Cameroon were South Korea ($X), France ($X) and Italy ($X).

France, with a CAGR of +5.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

Import Prices by Country

The average lead import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by -17.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a mild decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average import price increased by 143% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
