In 2022, overseas shipments of nitrogenous fertilizers (mineral or chemical) decreased by X% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, exports continue to indicate a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, nitrogenous fertilizer exports dropped dramatically to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Chad (X tons) was the main destination for nitrogenous fertilizer exports from Cameroon, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, nitrogenous fertilizer exports to Chad exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Congo (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Gabon (X tons), with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Chad stood at X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Congo (X% per year) and Gabon (X% per year).

The second position in the ranking was held by Congo ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Angola, with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Chad stood at X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Congo (X% per year) and Angola (X% per year).

In 2022, the average nitrogenous fertilizer export price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of X% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Angola ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Gabon ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Central African Republic (X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Cameroon

In 2022, nitrogenous fertilizer imports into Cameroon declined slightly to X tons, reducing by X% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by X%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then dropped slightly in the following year.

In value terms, nitrogenous fertilizer imports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by X% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Russia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of nitrogenous fertilizer to Cameroon, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, nitrogenous fertilizer imports from Russia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Nigeria (X tons), twofold. Poland (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Russia stood at X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Nigeria (X% per year) and Poland (X% per year).

In value terms, the largest nitrogenous fertilizer suppliers to Cameroon were Russia ($X), Nigeria ($X) and Poland ($X), with a combined X% share of total imports.

Nigeria, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per ton), while the price for the United States ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
