In 2022, after five years of growth, there was significant decline in the Cameroonian market for non-cellular plates, sheets, film, foil and strip of plastics, when its value decreased by -9% to $X. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a prominent increase. Consumption of peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

Exports from Cameroon

In 2022, exports of non-cellular plates, sheets, film, foil and strip of plastics from Cameroon shrank notably to X tons, falling by -29.5% compared with the year before. Overall, exports, however, posted a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 829% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, exports of non-cellular plates, sheets, film, foil and strip of plastics shrank markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 948% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped significantly in the following year.

Exports by Country

South Korea (X tons), Congo (X tons) and Central African Republic (X kg) were the main destinations of exports of non-cellular plates, sheets, film, foil and strip of plastics from Cameroon, with a combined 79% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Congo (with a CAGR of +76.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, South Korea ($X) remains the key foreign market for non-cellular plates, sheets, film, foil and strip of plastics exports from Cameroon, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Central African Republic ($X), with an 8.1% share of total exports. It was followed by Gabon, with a 7.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to South Korea totaled +62.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Central African Republic (+31.6% per year) and Gabon (+35.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average export price for non-cellular plates, sheets, film, foil and strip of plastics stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by -16.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a tangible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 149% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then fell sharply in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Congo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Central African Republic (+12.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Cameroon

In 2022, after five years of growth, there was decline in purchases abroad of non-cellular plates, sheets, film, foil and strip of plastics, when their volume decreased by -4.9% to X tons. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 105% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then contracted modestly in the following year.

In value terms, imports of non-cellular plates, sheets, film, foil and strip of plastics reduced to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, enjoyed buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 158%. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

Imports by Country

India (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of imports of non-cellular plates, sheets, film, foil and strip of plastics to Cameroon, together comprising 81% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for India (with a CAGR of +50.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, India ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and China ($X) constituted the largest non-cellular plates, sheets, film, foil and strip of plastics suppliers to Cameroon, with a combined 74% share of total imports.

In terms of the main suppliers, India, with a CAGR of +46.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
