Orange Market Size in Cameroon

The Cameroonian orange market surged to $X in 2022, jumping by 19% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption decreased by -16.6% against 2020 indices. Orange consumption peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from Cameroon

In 2022, after seven years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of oranges, when their volume decreased by -21.5% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 151% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, orange exports fell markedly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 163%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then declined rapidly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Gabon (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main destinations of orange exports from Cameroon.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Gabon (with a CAGR of +71.6%).

In value terms, France ($X) and Gabon ($X) were the largest markets for orange exported from Cameroon worldwide.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Gabon, with a CAGR of +90.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average orange export price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -1.8% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, orange export price increased by +103.7% against 2012 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 44% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Gabon amounted to $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+11.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Orange Imports

Imports into Cameroon

In 2022, overseas purchases of oranges decreased by -5.2% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 115%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, orange imports soared to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 67% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, South Africa (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of orange to Cameroon, accounting for a 60% share of total imports. Moreover, orange imports from South Africa exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Morocco (X tons), with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from South Africa totaled +17.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (+43.9% per year) and Morocco (+50.2% per year).

In value terms, the largest orange suppliers to Cameroon were South Africa ($X), the United States ($X) and Morocco ($X), together accounting for 92% of total imports.

The United States, with a CAGR of +49.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average orange import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 23% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the average import price increased by 24% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Morocco ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+8.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
