Pimenta Pepper Market Size in Cameroon

The Cameroonian pimenta pepper market expanded remarkably to $X in 2022, growing by 5.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. In value terms, pimenta pepper exports dropped rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 145%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then contracted markedly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Canada (X tons) was the main destination for pimenta pepper exports from Cameroon, accounting for a 93% share of total exports. It was followed by Belgium (X kg), with a 0.7% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Canada amounted to +11.3%.

In value terms, Canada ($X) remains the key foreign market for pimenta pepper exports from Cameroon, comprising 94% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belgium ($X), with a 0.9% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Canada totaled +24.2%.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average pimenta pepper export price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -1.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 99% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada amounted to $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ireland (+71.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Cameroon

In 2022, the amount of pimenta pepper imported into Cameroon contracted markedly to X tons, shrinking by -49.4% on 2021 figures. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 418%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, pimenta pepper imports contracted significantly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate slight growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 463%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.

Imports by Country

The UK (X kg), Turkey (X kg) and India (X kg) were the main suppliers of pimenta pepper imports to Cameroon, together comprising 99% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +0.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, the largest pimenta pepper suppliers to Cameroon were Turkey ($X), India ($X) and the UK ($X), together accounting for 88% of total imports.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, pimenta pepper import price decreased by -42.4% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 60%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while the price for the UK ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+63.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
