Radio Receiver Market Size in Cameroon

After three years of growth, the Cameroonian radio receiver market decreased by -17.2% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a resilient expansion. Radio receiver consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted markedly in the following year.

In 2022, after three years of decline, there was growth in shipments abroad of radio receivers, when their volume increased by 3.6% to X units. Over the period under review, exports posted noticeable growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 1,058% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, radio receiver exports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 626% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

The United States (X units) was the main destination for radio receiver exports from Cameroon, accounting for a 84% share of total exports. Moreover, radio receiver exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the Netherlands (X units), with a 4.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to the United States amounted to +11.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Democratic Republic of the Congo (+30.2% per year) and the Netherlands (+28.2% per year).

In value terms, the United States ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for radio receivers exports from Cameroon, comprising 75% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 2.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to the United States amounted to +15.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Democratic Republic of the Congo (+34.3% per year) and the Netherlands (-4.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average radio receiver export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, declining by -11.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 701% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Ghana ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ghana (+12.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Cameroon

In 2022, supplies from abroad of radio receivers decreased by -15.8% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, showed significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 581%. Imports peaked at X units in 2021, and then declined significantly in the following year.

In value terms, radio receiver imports shrank notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 436% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank markedly in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of radio receiver to Cameroon, accounting for a 79% share of total imports. Moreover, radio receiver imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Hong Kong SAR (X units), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled +32.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hong Kong SAR (+14.2% per year) and Spain (+85.3% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of radio receivers to Cameroon, comprising 84% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Spain ($X), with a 3.5% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled +23.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+90.1% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (+1.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average radio receiver import price amounted to $X per unit, falling by -4.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 33%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per unit), while the price for Hong Kong SAR ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
