In 2022, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in the Cameroonian cast iron household articles market, when its value decreased by -56.5% to $X. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a sharp setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 877%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cast iron household articles exports shrank to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a precipitous curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 676%. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Congo (X kg) was the main destination for cast iron household articles exports from Cameroon, with a 45% share of total exports. Moreover, cast iron household articles exports to Congo exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Tanzania (X kg), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by France (X kg), with a 17% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Congo stood at -33.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Tanzania (0.0% per year) and France (-39.7% per year).

In value terms, France ($X) remains the key foreign market for table, kitchen or household articles of cast iron exports from Cameroon, comprising 37% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Congo ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Canada, with a 5.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to France totaled -34.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Congo (-44.3% per year) and Canada (-11.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average cast iron household articles export price amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -31.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 74%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Tanzania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Norway (+497.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Cameroon

In 2022, supplies from abroad of table, kitchen or household articles of cast iron decreased by -65.6% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 138% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cast iron household articles imports contracted rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 214%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then fell notably in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of cast iron household articles to Cameroon, accounting for a 34% share of total imports. Moreover, cast iron household articles imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (X tons), threefold. Togo (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled +4.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+12.2% per year) and Togo (-13.3% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of table, kitchen or household articles of cast iron to Cameroon, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United States ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with a 5.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China amounted to +25.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (+74.1% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+27.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average cast iron household articles import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 36% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 67% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Togo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+26.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
