Market Size for Wood Boxes, Crates and Cable Drums in Cameroon

In 2022, the Cameroonian market for wood boxes, crates and cable drums was finally on the rise to reach $X after two years of decline. The United States (X units) was the main destination for wood box and cable drum exports from Cameroon, accounting for a 82% share of total exports. Moreover, wood box and cable drum exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Tanzania (X units), more than tenfold. Chad (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 5.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the United States was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Tanzania (0.0% per year) and Chad (0.0% per year).

In value terms, the United States ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for wood boxes, crates and cable drums exports from Cameroon, comprising 98% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with a 0.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Tanzania, with a 0.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United States was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (-52.2% per year) and Tanzania (0.0% per year).

Overall, imports continue to indicate a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 245%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, wood box and cable drum imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 139%. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Italy (X units), Austria (X units) and the United States (X units) were the main suppliers of wood box and cable drum imports to Cameroon, together comprising 42% of total imports. Poland, South Africa, France, Singapore, the UK, the United Arab Emirates, China, Belgium, Lebanon and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 49%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Singapore (with a CAGR of +63.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the import price showed a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 42% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2019 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per unit), while the price for South Africa ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+21.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
