In 2022, the Canadian cadmium market increased by 518% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption enjoyed a significant expansion. As a result, consumption reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, cadmium imports dropped dramatically to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 102% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

In 2021, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of cadmium to Canada, with a 87% share of total imports. Moreover, cadmium imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (X tons), eightfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Germany amounted to +133.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (-2.5% per year) and Australia (-35.0% per year).
