The Philippines (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main destinations of chicken meat exports from Canada, together comprising 74% of total exports. These countries were followed by Ghana, Jamaica, Gabon, Benin, Guinea, South Africa, Hong Kong SAR and Cuba, which together accounted for a further 15%.

In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of chicken meat, when their volume decreased by -5.3% to X tons. In general, imports recorded a slight descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, chicken meat imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a noticeable slump. Imports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the United States (X tons) constituted the largest chicken meat supplier to Canada, accounting for a 85% share of total imports. Moreover, chicken meat imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Brazil (X tons), sevenfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the United States amounted to -1.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Brazil (+3.8% per year) and Hungary (+19.1% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X) constituted the largest supplier of chicken meat to Canada, comprising 81% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Brazil ($X), with a 16% share of total imports.
