The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

The United States (X tons), Haiti (X tons) and Trinidad and Tobago (X tons) were the main destinations of dried or salted fish exports from Canada, together accounting for 86% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Haiti (with a CAGR of +11.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for dried or salted fish exports from Canada, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Haiti ($X), with a 9.2% share of total exports. It was followed by Trinidad and Tobago, with a 3.1% share.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Haiti ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into Canada
In 2021, purchases abroad of dried or salted fish decreased by -25.8% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, imports saw a perceptible setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then contracted markedly in the following year.
In value terms, dried or salted fish imports shrank notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a perceptible decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 26% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Norway (X tons) constituted the largest dried or salted fish supplier to Canada, with a 45% share of total imports. Moreover, dried or salted fish imports from Norway exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Iceland (X tons), twofold.
