Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 36%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

The United States (X tons), Germany (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of flat-rolled steel products imports to Canada, with a combined 93% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Japan and Costa Rica, which together accounted for a further 5.4%.
