In value terms, non-alloy aluminium bar exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a dramatic setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 68% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
The United States (X tons) was the main destination for non-alloy aluminium bar exports from Canada, with a 71% share of total exports. Moreover, non-alloy aluminium bar exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), threefold. Pakistan (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 2.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to the United States totaled -25.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-24.8% per year) and Pakistan (+28.3% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for non-alloy aluminium bars, rods and profiles exports from Canada, comprising 84% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by Pakistan, with a 3.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United States totaled -22.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-27.1% per year) and Pakistan (+27.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average non-alloy aluminium bar export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -13.5% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by 67%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then fell in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Pakistan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bahrain (+7.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Canada
In 2021, purchases abroad of non-alloy aluminium bars, rods and profiles increased by 56% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports recorded a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 80% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, non-alloy aluminium bar imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports posted a buoyant increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Malaysia (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main suppliers of non-alloy aluminium bar imports to Canada, together accounting for 70% of total imports. These countries were followed by India, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, China and Turkey, which together accounted for a further 26%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of +129.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United States ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Malaysia ($X) constituted the largest non-alloy aluminium bar suppliers to Canada, together comprising 69% of total imports. These countries were followed by India, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Turkey and China, which together accounted for a further 24%.
The United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +127.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average non-alloy aluminium bar import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 13% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a slight slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average import price increased by 24%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Oman (+15.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
