After six years of decline, the Canadian t-shirt market increased by 321% to $X in 2022. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a deep slump. T-shirt consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, shipments abroad of t-shirts increased by 353% to X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports continue to indicate a buoyant increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, t-shirt exports reduced to $X in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +75.5% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 70%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped in the following year.

The United States (X units) was the main destination for t-shirt exports from Canada, with a 89% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands (X units), with a 2.1% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to the United States totaled +10.3%.
In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for t-shirts exports from Canada, comprising 76% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Netherlands ($X), with a 6.8% share of total exports.

In 2022, the average t-shirt export price amounted to $X per unit, declining by -80.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a abrupt descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average export price increased by 81%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit, and then dropped markedly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to the United States amounted to $X per unit.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (-5.8%).

Imports into Canada
In 2022, after six years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of t-shirts, when their volume increased by 553% to X units. Overall, imports, however, faced a abrupt curtailment. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, t-shirt imports soared to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a deep contraction. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
China (X units), the United States (X units) and India (X units) were the main suppliers of t-shirt imports to Canada, with a combined 56% share of total imports. Cambodia, Bangladesh, Mexico, Honduras, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Nicaragua and Madagascar lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 31%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Madagascar (with a CAGR of +13.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X), Cambodia ($X) and Vietnam ($X) were the largest t-shirt suppliers to Canada, together comprising 51% of total imports. Bangladesh, the United States, Sri Lanka, Mexico, Honduras, India, Nicaragua and Madagascar lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 29%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Madagascar, with a CAGR of +14.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average t-shirt import price amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -76.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed notable growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 311%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit, and then declined rapidly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per unit), while the price for India ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nicaragua (+6.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
