The Central Asian air conditioning machine market reduced to $X in 2021, declining by -13.6% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last nine-year period. In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of air conditioning machines, when their volume decreased by -29.1% to X units. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 1,290% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X units in 2020, and then declined significantly in the following year.

In value terms, air conditioning machine exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 608% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Uzbekistan represented the main exporting country with an export of around X units, which resulted at 73% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X units), mixing up a 26% share of total exports.

Uzbekistan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the air conditioning machines exports, with a CAGR of +249.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+24.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Uzbekistan (+73 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -29.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) remains the largest air conditioning machine supplier in Central Asia, comprising 83% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 15% share of total exports.

In 2021, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 133% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a pronounced contraction. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per unit), while Kazakhstan amounted to $X per unit.

Imports in Central Asia

In 2021, purchases abroad of air conditioning machines decreased by -33.9% to X units for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 48% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2020, and then declined markedly in the following year.

In value terms, air conditioning machine imports fell to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -22.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 41% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Kazakhstan (X units) was the main importer of air conditioning machines, creating 49% of total imports. Uzbekistan (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 20% share, followed by Turkmenistan (14%) and Tajikistan (12%). Kyrgyzstan (X units) and Mongolia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to air conditioning machine imports into Kazakhstan stood at -1.2%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+8.5%), Kyrgyzstan (+3.9%) and Tajikistan (+3.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +8.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Mongolia (-2.4%) and Turkmenistan (-8.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest air conditioning machine importing markets in Central Asia were Kazakhstan ($X), Uzbekistan ($X) and Turkmenistan ($X), together comprising 86% of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +5.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 39% against the previous year. Import price indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, air conditioning machine import price decreased by -18.6% against 2018 indices. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
