Aircraft Market Size in Central Asia

The Central Asian aircraft market reduced sharply to $X in 2022, dropping by -16.3% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate slight growth. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then declined remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, aircraft production amounted to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production saw a precipitous decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 103,404,200% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

Exports in Central Asia

Aircraft exports surged to X units in 2022, rising by 38% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 467% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, aircraft exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 2,866%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

The shipments of the one major exporters of airplanes and other aircraft, namely Kazakhstan, represented more than two-thirds of total export.

Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the airplanes and other aircraft exports, with a CAGR of +18.6% from 2012 to 2022. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) also remains the largest aircraft supplier in Central Asia.

In Kazakhstan, aircraft exports expanded at an average annual rate of +66.1% over the period from 2012-2022.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per unit in 2022, growing by 181% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 1,383% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Kazakhstan.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Kazakhstan amounted to +40.0% per year.

Imports in Central Asia

In 2022, the amount of airplanes and other aircraft imported in Central Asia declined notably to X units, with a decrease of -25.7% against the year before. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 283%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, aircraft imports declined notably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 308% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then declined sharply in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Kazakhstan (X units) represented the major importer of airplanes and other aircraft, achieving 56% of total imports. Kyrgyzstan (X units) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X units), Turkmenistan (X units) and Mongolia (X units). All these countries together took approx. 44% share of total imports.

Imports into Kazakhstan increased at an average annual rate of +27.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+61.5%) and Kyrgyzstan (+28.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +61.5% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Mongolia (-4.9%) and Turkmenistan (-8.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Kazakhstan (+44 p.p.), Kyrgyzstan (+14 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+9.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Mongolia and Turkmenistan saw its share reduced by -22.3% and -45.8% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Turkmenistan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported airplanes and other aircraft in Central Asia, comprising 68% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 25% share of total imports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 4.6% share.

In Turkmenistan, aircraft imports expanded at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (+49.4% per year) and Uzbekistan (+88.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per unit, shrinking by -15.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a pronounced curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the import price increased by 113% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkmenistan ($X per unit), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kyrgyzstan (+25.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
