Aluminium Bar Market Size in Central Asia

In 2021, the Central Asian aluminium bar market increased by 26% to $X, rising for the fifth year in a row after three years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a resilient increase. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

For the tenth year in a row, Central Asia recorded growth in shipments abroad of aluminium bars, rods and profiles, which increased by 39% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 173% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In value terms, aluminium bar exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 175%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Uzbekistan was the key exporter of aluminium bars, rods and profiles in Central Asia, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was near 62% of total exports in 2021. Tajikistan (X tons) took a 22% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Kazakhstan (15%).

Exports from Uzbekistan increased at an average annual rate of +43.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Tajikistan (+67.2%) and Kazakhstan (+22.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tajikistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +67.2% from 2012-2021. Uzbekistan (+62 p.p.) and Tajikistan (+14 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -73.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) remains the largest aluminium bar supplier in Central Asia, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Tajikistan ($X), with a 17% share of total exports.

In Uzbekistan, aluminium bar exports expanded at an average annual rate of +59.7% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Tajikistan (+64.8% per year) and Kazakhstan (+21.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced slump. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Tajikistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+11.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Central Asia

In 2021, approx. X tons of aluminium bars, rods and profiles were imported in Central Asia; jumping by 18% on 2020. Total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +83.0% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 41%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, aluminium bar imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +108.4% against 2018 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Kazakhstan (X tons) was the key importer of aluminium bars, rods and profiles, generating 43% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Turkmenistan (X tons), Uzbekistan (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons), together achieving a 53% share of total imports. The following importers - Tajikistan (X tons) and Mongolia (X tons) - each amounted to a 3.9% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +18.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest aluminium bar importing markets in Central Asia were Kazakhstan ($X), Uzbekistan ($X) and Turkmenistan ($X), with a combined 84% share of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +33.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Mongolia ($X per ton), while Tajikistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
