In value terms, ammonium nitrate exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports enjoyed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 535% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Uzbekistan represented the largest exporting country with an export of around X tons, which amounted to 63% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), mixing up a 37% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Kazakhstan (with a CAGR of +6.2%).

In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) remains the largest ammonium nitrate supplier in Central Asia, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 32% share of total exports.

The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, ammonium nitrate imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded modest growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 46% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Kazakhstan represented the main importer of ammonium nitrate in Central Asia, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was near 45% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Kyrgyzstan (X tons), Mongolia (X tons) and Turkmenistan (X tons), together comprising a 51% share of total imports. Tajikistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Kazakhstan increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Turkmenistan (+25.6%), Tajikistan (+13.2%) and Mongolia (+11.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Turkmenistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +25.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Kyrgyzstan (-1.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Turkmenistan, Mongolia and Tajikistan increased by +12, +8.4 and +2 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported ammonium nitrate in Central Asia, comprising 45% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkmenistan ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Mongolia, with a 17% share.

In Kazakhstan, ammonium nitrate imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkmenistan (+29.1% per year) and Mongolia (+7.2% per year).

Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Tajikistan ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tajikistan (+2.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
