In value terms, antibiotic exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports enjoyed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 177%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Mongolia dominates exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 88% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X kg), achieving a 9% share of total exports. Kazakhstan (X kg) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Mongolia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the antibiotics exports, with a CAGR of +75.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+31.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-20.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, Mongolia ($X) emerged as the largest antibiotic supplier in Central Asia, comprising 62% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 26% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Mongolia totaled +76.8%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Uzbekistan (+26.2% per year) and Kazakhstan (-16.1% per year).

In 2021, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -45.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a abrupt descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 73%. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 308% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, antibiotic imports dropped remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 192% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Uzbekistan represented the main importer of antibiotics in Central Asia, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was approx. 52% of total imports in 2021. Kazakhstan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 34% share, followed by Mongolia (7.2%). Turkmenistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Turkmenistan (with a CAGR of +4.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

In value terms, the largest antibiotic importing markets in Central Asia were Kazakhstan ($X), Uzbekistan ($X) and Mongolia ($X), with a combined 96% share of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Mongolia, with a CAGR of +8.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 41% against the previous year. Import price indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Turkmenistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
