In 2022, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per unit, approximately mirroring the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a modest increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the export price increased by 132%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($X per unit), while Kazakhstan totaled $X per unit.

In 2022, overseas purchases of artificial parts of the body (excl. artificial teeth and dental fittings and artificial joints) increased by 184% to X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports showed strong growth. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, orthopedic prosthetics imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 102%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Kazakhstan was the main importing country with an import of about X units, which accounted for 73% of total imports. Uzbekistan (X units) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Kyrgyzstan (X units). All these countries together took near 20% share of total imports. The following importers - Turkmenistan (X units) and Mongolia (X units) - each recorded a 7.4% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to orthopedic prosthetics imports into Kazakhstan stood at +12.4%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+42.3%), Mongolia (+38.5%), Kyrgyzstan (+6.1%) and Turkmenistan (+4.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +42.3% from 2012-2022. Uzbekistan (+15 p.p.) and Mongolia (+3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -4.5%, -5.5% and -8.1% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X), Uzbekistan ($X) and Mongolia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 95% of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Mongolia, with a CAGR of +40.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per unit, waning by -54.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the import price increased by 125%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per unit), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mongolia (+1.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
