In general, imports recorded a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 237%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, artificial staple fibre imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 161%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Uzbekistan dominates imports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 95% of total imports in 2021. Kazakhstan (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to artificial staple fibre imports into Uzbekistan stood at +27.6%. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+67.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +67.5% from 2012-2021. Uzbekistan (+7.8 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (+3.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported artificial staple fibres in Central Asia, comprising 95% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 2.3% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Uzbekistan stood at +28.3%.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, rising by 22% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a mild curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the import price increased by 136%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan stood at $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+0.6%).
