Exports in Central Asia

In 2021, approx. X tons of ball bearings were exported in Central Asia; which is down by -56.3% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 319%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, ball bearing exports shrank dramatically to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, posted a strong increase. Exports by Country

Kazakhstan prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 79% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Tajikistan (X tons), Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons), together achieving a 21% share of total exports.

Exports from Kazakhstan increased at an average annual rate of +17.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Tajikistan (+100.0%), Uzbekistan (+70.9%) and Kyrgyzstan (+54.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tajikistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +100.0% from 2012-2021. While the share of Tajikistan (+8.8 p.p.), Kyrgyzstan (+6.2 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Kazakhstan (-19.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) remains the largest ball bearing supplier in Central Asia, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan, with a 2% share.

In Kazakhstan, ball bearing exports expanded at an average annual rate of +15.4% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Uzbekistan (+129.7% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (+24.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible setback. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Tajikistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+34.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Central Asia

Ball bearing imports declined to X tons in 2021, falling by -13.6% on the previous year. Overall, imports, however, saw strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 183% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, ball bearing imports fell slightly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 140% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Kazakhstan dominates imports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 90% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X tons), constituting a 5.6% share of total imports. Turkmenistan (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to ball bearing imports into Kazakhstan stood at +12.3%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+15.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +15.1% from 2012-2021. Turkmenistan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Uzbekistan (+5.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Turkmenistan (-2.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported ball bearings in Central Asia, comprising 81% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 12% share of total imports.

In Kazakhstan, ball bearing imports expanded at an average annual rate of +10.6% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Uzbekistan (+20.1% per year) and Turkmenistan (-0.3% per year).

The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 12% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a slight setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
