Kazakhstan (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons) prevails in exports structure, together achieving 96% of total exports. Kyrgyzstan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Kazakhstan (with a CAGR of +13.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X), Uzbekistan ($X) and Kyrgyzstan ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 99% of total exports.
Among the main exporting countries, Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +32.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 52% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a pronounced decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 102% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+57.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Central Asia
In 2021, approx. X tons of base metal closures, stoppers, caps and lids were imported in Central Asia; falling by -13.1% compared with 2020. Overall, imports, however, recorded a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 85%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, base metal closure imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +116.5% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 40%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
Kazakhstan represented the key importing country with an import of about X tons, which finished at 45% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X tons), Turkmenistan (X tons), Tajikistan (X tons), Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Mongolia (X tons), together committing a 55% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Turkmenistan (with a CAGR of +6.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest base metal closure importing markets in Central Asia were Kazakhstan ($X), Uzbekistan ($X) and Turkmenistan ($X), with a combined 89% share of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +23.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 42% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Tajikistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
