In 2021, overseas purchases of base metal hinges decreased by -31.4% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after four years of growth. Overall, imports, however, recorded a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 83% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, base metal hinge imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a resilient expansion. By contrast, Turkmenistan (-4.4%) and Uzbekistan (-17.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Uzbekistan (+19 p.p.), Kazakhstan (+2.8 p.p.) and Kyrgyzstan (+2.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Turkmenistan and Tajikistan saw its share reduced by -9.4% and -13.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported base metal hinges in Central Asia, comprising 56% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 27% share of total imports. It was followed by Tajikistan, with a 7.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Kazakhstan totaled +17.7%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Uzbekistan (+21.6% per year) and Tajikistan (+5.3% per year).

The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 74% against the previous year. Import price indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last nine-year period. Based on 2021 figures, base metal hinge import price increased by +107.7% against 2017 indices. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
