Exports in Central Asia
In 2021, shipments abroad of base metal tubular or bifurcated rivets increased by 297% to X tons, rising for the fourth year in a row after five years of decline. Over the period under review, exports posted slight growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 1,886% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, metal tubular rivet exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 2,403% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Kazakhstan prevails in exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was near 86% of total exports in 2021. Kyrgyzstan (X kg) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 6.3% share, followed by Turkmenistan (5.4%). Uzbekistan (X kg) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Kazakhstan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of base metal tubular or bifurcated rivets. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+270.8%), Kyrgyzstan (+55.1%) and Turkmenistan (+6.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +270.8% from 2012-2021. While the share of Kyrgyzstan (+6.1 p.p.), Turkmenistan (+5.4 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+2.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Kazakhstan (-13.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) emerged as the largest metal tubular rivet supplier in Central Asia, comprising 84% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkmenistan ($X), with a 5.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan, with a 5.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Kazakhstan stood at -4.0%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Turkmenistan (-16.8% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (+26.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, shrinking by -34% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 112% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+29.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Central Asia
In 2021, approx. X tons of base metal tubular or bifurcated rivets were imported in Central Asia; which is down by -7% against the previous year. In general, imports, however, posted a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 440% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, metal tubular rivet imports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 115% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Kazakhstan represented the major importing country with an import of about X tons, which finished at 57% of total imports. Uzbekistan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 31% share, followed by Kyrgyzstan (12%).
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Kyrgyzstan (with a CAGR of +31.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported base metal tubular or bifurcated rivets in Central Asia, comprising 63% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 27% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Kazakhstan totaled +23.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Uzbekistan (+41.0% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (+25.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 18% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 57% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
