In 2022, the Central Asian beer market increased by 1.5% to $X, rising for the sixth year in a row after two years of decline. In general, consumption showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Mongolia (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -2.8% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) remains the largest beer supplier in Central Asia, comprising 93% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mongolia ($X), with a 5.1% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Kazakhstan amounted to +4.6%.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by -3.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a noticeable descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 12%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mongolia ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan stood at $X per ton.

In 2022, the amount of beer imported in Central Asia dropped modestly to X tons, which is down by -4.2% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports showed a slight decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 33% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, beer imports reduced to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a noticeable setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 66%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Kazakhstan represented the key importer of beer in Central Asia, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was near 64% of total imports in 2022. Kyrgyzstan (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Mongolia (X tons). All these countries together took near 31% share of total imports. Tajikistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the beer imports, with a CAGR of +1.2% from 2012 to 2022. Kyrgyzstan (-2.1%), Tajikistan (-3.2%) and Mongolia (-6.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Kazakhstan (+13 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Kyrgyzstan (-1.8 p.p.) and Mongolia (-9.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported beer in Central Asia, comprising 56% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kyrgyzstan ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by Mongolia, with a 17% share.
In Kazakhstan, beer imports contracted by an average annual rate of -3.0% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kyrgyzstan (-2.2% per year) and Mongolia (-4.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -6.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 25%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mongolia ($X per ton), while Tajikistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mongolia (+2.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
