Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.

Tajikistan represented the largest exporter of bone glues and gelatin in Central Asia, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was near 69% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons), together committing a 29% share of total exports. Mongolia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Tajikistan increased at an average annual rate of +85.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+87.3%) and Mongolia (+64.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +87.3% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Kyrgyzstan (-7.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Mongolia increased by +69, +17 and +1.9 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Tajikistan ($X) remains the largest bone glue and gelatin supplier in Central Asia, comprising 73% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan, with an 8.5% share.

In Tajikistan, bone glue and gelatin exports expanded at an average annual rate of +91.1% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (+81.7% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (-7.8% per year).

In 2022, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -11.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a noticeable expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the export price increased by 217% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mongolia ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tajikistan (+3.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Central Asia

For the seventh year in a row, Central Asia recorded growth in supplies from abroad of bone glues and gelatin, which increased by 35% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 67% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In value terms, bone glue and gelatin imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 55%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, Kazakhstan (X tons) represented the largest importer of bone glues and gelatin, generating 64% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X tons) and Turkmenistan (X tons), together constituting a 31% share of total imports. Kyrgyzstan (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

Imports into Kazakhstan increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+26.4%), Turkmenistan (+19.1%) and Kyrgyzstan (+9.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +26.4% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan increased by +24 and +4 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported bone glues and gelatin in Central Asia, comprising 59% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 29% share of total imports. It was followed by Turkmenistan, with an 8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Kazakhstan amounted to +2.6%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Uzbekistan (+32.6% per year) and Turkmenistan (+28.5% per year).
