The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per unit in 2022, increasing by 8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price posted tangible growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 73% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkmenistan ($X per unit), while Tajikistan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In general, imports continue to indicate a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 247% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, boring machinery imports declined to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 237% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Kazakhstan (X units) represented the key importer of boring or sinking machinery, generating 60% of total imports. Uzbekistan (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 24% share, followed by Kyrgyzstan (6.9%) and Tajikistan (4.6%). Mongolia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into Kazakhstan decreased at an average annual rate of -11.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Tajikistan (+16.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tajikistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +16.7% from 2012-2022. Kyrgyzstan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Mongolia (-8.8%) and Uzbekistan (-35.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan increased by +24, +4.7 and +4.3 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X), Uzbekistan ($X) and Kyrgyzstan ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 92% share of total imports. Mongolia and Tajikistan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 6.9%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Tajikistan, with a CAGR of +11.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per unit in 2022, with an increase of 9.6% against the previous year. Import price indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, boring machinery import price decreased by -14.3% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 97%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per unit), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
