The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cadmium exports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate noticeable growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when exports increased by 49%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Kazakhstan represented the major exporting country with an export of around X tons, which amounted to 84% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X tons), mixing up a 16% share of total exports.

Imports in Central Asia

After two years of growth, purchases abroad of cadmium decreased by -34.7% to X kg in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 515% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then contracted notably in the following year.

In value terms, cadmium imports declined markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 5,245% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Turkmenistan (X kg) represented roughly 99% of total imports in 2022.

Turkmenistan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the cadmium imports, with a CAGR of +48.0% from 2012 to 2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Turkmenistan increased by +89 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
