Carbides Market Size in Central Asia

The Central Asian carbides market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2022, after four years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a perceptible decline. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Carbides Production in Central Asia

In value terms, carbides production dropped modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production showed a pronounced slump. The shipments of the one major exporters of carbides, namely Kazakhstan, represented more than two-thirds of total export.

Kazakhstan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of carbides. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) also remains the largest carbides supplier in Central Asia.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Kazakhstan stood at +1.9%.

In 2022, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, surging by 38% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Kazakhstan.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Kazakhstan amounted to +0.9% per year.

Imports in Central Asia

In 2022, imports of carbides in Central Asia surged to X tons, increasing by 54% on 2021. In general, imports enjoyed a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 272% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In value terms, carbides imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports showed resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 313%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Uzbekistan represented the largest importing country with an import of about X tons, which recorded 49% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), Turkmenistan (X tons), Mongolia (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons), together constituting a 49% share of total imports. Tajikistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Kazakhstan (with a CAGR of +45.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported carbides in Central Asia, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 23% share of total imports. It was followed by Mongolia, with a 4.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Kazakhstan amounted to +20.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Uzbekistan (+5.1% per year) and Mongolia (+6.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 4.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 49%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
