Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then dropped notably in the following year.

In value terms, carboxylic acid exports shrank significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 184% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

Kazakhstan represented the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which accounted for 79% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X tons), making up a 21% share of total exports.

Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the carboxylic acid with alcohol, phenol, aldehyde or ketone functions exports, with a CAGR of +11.5% from 2012 to 2021. Uzbekistan (-12.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Kazakhstan (+49 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Uzbekistan saw its share reduced by -45.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) remains the largest carboxylic acid supplier in Central Asia, comprising 73% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 27% share of total exports.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. In 2021, Kazakhstan (X tons) represented the key importer of carboxylic acid with alcohol, phenol, aldehyde or ketone functions, making up 73% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X tons), Mongolia (X tons) and Turkmenistan (X tons), together committing a 26% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to carboxylic acid imports into Kazakhstan stood at +2.9%. At the same time, Mongolia (+43.6%), Turkmenistan (+26.2%) and Uzbekistan (+11.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mongolia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +43.6% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Uzbekistan, Mongolia and Turkmenistan increased by +14, +6 and +3.9 percentage points, respectively.

The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by Turkmenistan, with a 4.7% share.

In Kazakhstan, carboxylic acid imports expanded at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Uzbekistan (+11.7% per year) and Turkmenistan (+19.7% per year).

In 2021, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, growing by 8.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a slight shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the import price increased by 13% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Mongolia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (-0.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
