Exports in Central Asia

In 2022, ceramic sanitary ware exports in Central Asia skyrocketed to X units, jumping by 23% on 2021 figures. In general, exports showed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 427%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, ceramic sanitary ware exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 295%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Turkmenistan represented the main exporting country with an export of around X units, which finished at 58% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X units), Uzbekistan (X units) and Kyrgyzstan (X units), together creating a 41% share of total exports.

Turkmenistan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the ceramic sinks, baths, water closet pans and similar sanitary fixtures exports, with a CAGR of +100.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+59.7%), Uzbekistan (+46.7%) and Kyrgyzstan (+37.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Turkmenistan (+47 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+11 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Kazakhstan (-23.9 p.p.) and Kyrgyzstan (-33.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Turkmenistan ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Uzbekistan ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together accounting for 95% of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Turkmenistan, with a CAGR of +83.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per unit, standing approx. at the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a pronounced setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the export price increased by 19% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per unit), while Uzbekistan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kyrgyzstan (+2.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2022, approx. X units of ceramic sinks, baths, water closet pans and similar sanitary fixtures were imported in Central Asia; with an increase of 1.7% against the previous year's figure. Total imports indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -17.6% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 44%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, ceramic sanitary ware imports amounted to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a slight shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 36% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Kazakhstan dominates imports structure, reaching X units, which was approx. 68% of total imports in 2022. Kyrgyzstan (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Turkmenistan (X units) and Tajikistan (X units). All these countries together took near 27% share of total imports. Mongolia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Kazakhstan increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Tajikistan (+29.6%), Kyrgyzstan (+21.5%) and Mongolia (+8.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tajikistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +29.6% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Turkmenistan (-1.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Kyrgyzstan (+7.9 p.p.) and Tajikistan (+7.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan saw its share reduced by -6% and -6.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported ceramic sinks, baths, water closet pans and similar sanitary fixtures in Central Asia, comprising 72% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkmenistan ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan, with a 9.5% share.

In Kazakhstan, ceramic sanitary ware imports shrank by an average annual rate of -2.9% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkmenistan (-1.9% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (+17.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per unit, rising by 9% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 32%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkmenistan ($X per unit), while Mongolia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
