In 2021, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in the Central Asian non-wheat cereal pellets market, when its value decreased by -13.2% to $X. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a resilient expansion. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then shrank in the following year.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the production volume increased by 36%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X, and then contracted in the following year.

Exports in Central Asia
For the third consecutive year, Central Asia recorded decline in shipments abroad of cereal pellets (excluding wheat), which decreased by -84% to X tons in 2021. Overall, exports saw a precipitous descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 133% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, non-wheat cereal pellets exports dropped remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, exports saw a precipitous contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 194%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
The shipments of the one major exporters of cereal pellets (excluding wheat), namely Kazakhstan, represented more than two-thirds of total export.
Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the cereal pellets (excluding wheat) exports, with a CAGR of -50.0% from 2012 to 2021. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) also remains the largest non-wheat cereal pellets supplier in Central Asia.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Kazakhstan amounted to -47.1%.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -11.5% against the previous year. Export price indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, non-wheat cereal pellets export price increased by +105.7% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by 64% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Kazakhstan.
From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Kazakhstan amounted to +5.9% per year.

Imports in Central Asia
In 2021, supplies from abroad of cereal pellets (excluding wheat) decreased by -23.7% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 123%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, non-wheat cereal pellets imports contracted notably to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 107% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Kazakhstan (X tons) was the main importer of cereal pellets (excluding wheat), mixing up 57% of total imports. Uzbekistan (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Turkmenistan (X tons). All these countries together took near 40% share of total imports. Tajikistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into Kazakhstan decreased at an average annual rate of -6.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Turkmenistan (+61.2%) and Uzbekistan (+27.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Turkmenistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +61.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Tajikistan (-21.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Uzbekistan (+22 p.p.), Turkmenistan (+16 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (+3.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Tajikistan saw its share reduced by -8.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X), Turkmenistan ($X) and Uzbekistan ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 95% share of total imports.
Turkmenistan, with a CAGR of +62.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a slight slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 60%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkmenistan ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tajikistan (+9.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
