Exports in Central Asia
In 2022, approx. X kg of chain and parts thereof of copper were exported in Central Asia; declining by -33.3% on the year before. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 500% against the previous year. Kazakhstan (X kg) represented roughly 100% of total exports in 2022.
Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the chain and parts thereof of copper exports, with a CAGR of +28.2% from 2012 to 2022. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) also remains the largest copper chain supplier in Central Asia.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Kazakhstan amounted to +24.1%.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a perceptible setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the export price increased by 56%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Kazakhstan.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Kazakhstan amounted to -3.2% per year.

Imports in Central Asia
In 2022, the amount of chain and parts thereof of copper imported in Central Asia soared to X tons, rising by 17% on 2021 figures. In general, imports posted buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 638%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, copper chain imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 309% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Kazakhstan was the major importing country with an import of around X tons, which finished at 55% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Mongolia (X kg) and Uzbekistan (X kg), together creating a 45% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Mongolia (with a CAGR of +59.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported chain and parts thereof of copper in Central Asia, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 27% share of total imports.
In Uzbekistan, copper chain imports expanded at an average annual rate of +198.4% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (-4.2% per year) and Mongolia (+92.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, standing approx. at the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 132% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Mongolia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+229.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
