Dolomite Market Size in Central Asia

In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in the Central Asian dolomite market, when its value decreased by -8.8% to $X. Overall, consumption, however, recorded prominent growth. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, dolomite production shrank significantly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, recorded buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the production volume increased by 82% against the previous year. In 2021, the amount of chalk and dolomite exported in Central Asia shrank to X tons, with a decrease of -7.7% against the previous year. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 3,859%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, dolomite exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, posted significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 930%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Uzbekistan was the main exporter of chalk and dolomite in Central Asia, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was near 90% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Kyrgyzstan (X tons), mixing up a 10% share of total exports.

Uzbekistan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the chalk and dolomite exports, with a CAGR of +206.9% from 2012 to 2021. Kyrgyzstan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Uzbekistan increased by +90 percentage points.

In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) remains the largest dolomite supplier in Central Asia, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kyrgyzstan ($X), with an 11% share of total exports.

The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a notable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 191%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan amounted to $X per ton.

Imports in Central Asia

In 2021, the amount of chalk and dolomite imported in Central Asia fell significantly to X tons, reducing by -19.6% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 387% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, dolomite imports fell significantly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 546% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Kazakhstan represented the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which recorded 53% of total imports. Uzbekistan (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Tajikistan (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 45% share of total imports.

Imports into Kazakhstan increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+38.1%), Tajikistan (+27.3%) and Kyrgyzstan (+7.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +38.1% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan increased by +16 and +9 percentage points, respectively.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Tajikistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kyrgyzstan (+1.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
