The Central Asian pimenta pepper market soared to $X in 2022, picking up by 16% against the previous year. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the production volume increased by 671% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2020 to 2022, production growth failed to regain momentum.

The country with the largest volume of pimenta pepper production was Uzbekistan (X tons), comprising approx. 91% of total volume. Moreover, pimenta pepper production in Uzbekistan exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Kyrgyzstan (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Tajikistan (X tons), with a 2.3% share.

In Uzbekistan, pimenta pepper production expanded at an average annual rate of +13.2% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kyrgyzstan (+0.1% per year) and Tajikistan (+1.7% per year).

The average pimenta pepper yield expanded markedly to X tons per ha in 2022, with an increase of 6.9% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, the yield enjoyed slight growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 105% against the previous year. As a result, the yield reached the peak level of X tons per ha. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the pimenta pepper yield remained at a lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

In 2022, the total area harvested in terms of pimenta pepper production in Central Asia rose slightly to X ha, picking up by 2.6% against the year before. In general, the harvested area posted resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 42%. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to pimenta pepper production attained the maximum at X ha in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the harvested area stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Central Asia

In 2022, shipments abroad of pimenta pepper decreased by -10.6% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after four years of growth. Overall, exports, however, saw a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 16,175% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, pimenta pepper exports contracted rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 12,197% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, Uzbekistan (X tons) represented the major exporter of pimenta pepper in Central Asia, creating 100% of total export.

Uzbekistan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the pimenta pepper exports, with a CAGR of +4.1% from 2012 to 2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Uzbekistan increased by +99 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) also remains the largest pimenta pepper supplier in Central Asia.

In Uzbekistan, pimenta pepper exports expanded at an average annual rate of +9.7% over the period from 2012-2022.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -33.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, enjoyed a buoyant increase. Imports in Central Asia

For the third consecutive year, Central Asia recorded growth in overseas purchases of pimenta pepper, which increased by 0.3% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 229% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, pimenta pepper imports declined to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 144%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

Imports by Country

Kazakhstan was the key importer of pimenta pepper in Central Asia, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 71% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Kyrgyzstan (X tons), generating a 25% share of total imports. Mongolia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Kazakhstan increased at an average annual rate of +12.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+74.1%) and Mongolia (+42.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kyrgyzstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +74.1% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia increased by +24 and +2.8 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported pimenta pepper in Central Asia, comprising 84% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kyrgyzstan ($X), with an 8.5% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Kazakhstan stood at +15.8%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kyrgyzstan (+39.8% per year) and Mongolia (+30.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, dropping by -6.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 94%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mongolia ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+2.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
