In value terms, cinnamon production plummeted to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, continues to indicate prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the production volume increased by 78%. Exports in Central Asia

In 2022, the amount of cinnamon (canella) exported in Central Asia reduced rapidly to X kg, declining by -98.3% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, exports, however, recorded significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 2,681%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

In value terms, cinnamon exports plummeted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 662%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then plummeted in the following year.

Exports by Country

Kazakhstan represented the key exporting country with an export of around X kg, which resulted at 69% of total exports. Uzbekistan (X kg) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Kyrgyzstan (X kg). All these countries together held approx. 31% share of total exports.

Exports from Kazakhstan increased at an average annual rate of +21.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+33.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +33.7% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Kyrgyzstan (-6.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Uzbekistan (+25 p.p.) and Kyrgyzstan (+5.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -30.8% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X), Uzbekistan ($X) and Kyrgyzstan ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022.

Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +40.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, jumping by 101% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate modest growth. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kyrgyzstan (+26.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Central Asia

In 2022, imports of cinnamon (canella) in Central Asia soared to X tons, surging by 39% against 2021 figures. In general, imports recorded a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 203% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, cinnamon imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports showed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 154% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Kazakhstan was the major importer of cinnamon (canella) in Central Asia, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was near 60% of total imports in 2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia increased by +23, +12 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported cinnamon (canella) in Central Asia, comprising 74% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 9.7% share of total imports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan, with a 7.6% share.
