Kazakhstan dominates exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 95% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Kyrgyzstan (X tons), generating a 4.6% share of total exports.
Kazakhstan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of coal other than lingites. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+14.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kyrgyzstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +14.7% from 2012-2022. In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) remains the largest coal other than lingite supplier in Central Asia, comprising 97% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kyrgyzstan ($X), with a 2.8% share of total exports.

Imports in Central Asia
In 2022, approx. X tons of coal other than lingites were imported in Central Asia; with a decrease of -33.4% compared with 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a mild increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 1,044%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then declined sharply in the following year.
In value terms, coal other than lingite imports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 211% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

Uzbekistan represented the main importer of coal other than lingites in Central Asia, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was near 48% of total imports in 2022. Kazakhstan (X tons) held a 26% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Kyrgyzstan (23%). Tajikistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +35.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported coal other than lingites in Central Asia, comprising 56% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 27% share of total imports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan, with a 15% share.
In Kazakhstan, coal other than lingite imports expanded at an average annual rate of +11.1% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Uzbekistan (+49.5% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (-5.5% per year).
